April 2008

Just home from South Africa, what a time that was. Our Schools trip went very well, a great success in fact. Gary Traylor, my brother did all the hard work with me, sorting 15,000 books for the schools in the townships of 12 schools and 2 orphanages in the Eastern Cape.

Our first week was hectic as we were sorting out books into their relevant piles, boxing them up and labelling for the different schools. Our labour was  certainly worth it - when you see the smiling faces of the pupils and teachers.
Prince Harry's charity 'Senebale' in Lesotho are having 2,500 books, which are at the factory awaiting transfer to Lesotho.

Our pilot school 'BENSILE SCHOOL' in the Transskei will be pleased as we are at long last able to supply them with library and early learning books for their library. Judy Hall in Umtharta is liaising with us and when they arrive by courier will deliver them later this year

List of Schools helped on this trip include:

  • Mgcawezulu High School - Headmaster Mr Somi
  • Tshatshu Primary School
  • Bisho High School
  • Noncedo Primary School, Tshatshu
  • Breidbach Primary, Breidbach
  • Siyazama High School, Peelton

These schools we were able to attend ourselves, the remaining schools will be assisted by the Ranger team in South Africa.

  • Nangamso Secondary School
  • Harpeton Public Primary School
  • Jityaza Primary School, Tyutyu village
  • Bensile School Umtharta, Transskei
  • Prince Harry's Charity, Sentebale, Lesotho
  • Lily Fontein School

We have helped two schools with photocopier, fax, scanner machines, along with paper and toners. In the past they had to beg from other schools for the use of these facility. The governor's of the schools were present and gave us such a fabulous welcome. The children of all ages danced and sang for Gary, Cordelia and myself. Wish all the fund raiser's in UK could have witnessed it too.

We would like to thank all those people who helped to make all this possible, too many names to mention, thank you everyone. We need more funds so we can continue to help these schools.
