eRanger goes to Sudan

The eRangers with proud riders in Sudan

As part of the new initiative to reduce child and maternal mortality in Southern Sudan, five eRanger Ambulances have been sent to Eastern Equatorial state - this is part of the Accelerated Child Survival Initiative (ACSI).

These initial eRanger Ambulances have been placed at the following clinics/areas.

- Kyiala Clinic, 1 unit
- Torit and Kapotea, 2 units
- Ikotos, 1 unit
- Magwi, 1 unit

These units have been funded by UNICEF and are operated by the HofHSS. Joyce Mphaya - Health Specialist (SMI/PMTCT) UNICEF Juba, Southern Sudan Office - has been co-odinating their deployment. She has experience of the eRangers from her time in Malawi. Mike Norman, the Ranger MD has just returned from the area, (where he met with Joyce and Dr. Anthony Yousepha Lasba - UNICEF Project Office Health, EPI), and carried out the rider safety and maintenance training.

We anticipate that a further five units will be sent before the end of the year.

We hope to keep in touch with the bike riders and operators to follow their progress as they contribute to this important initiative in what must be one of the most difficult countries to work in.
