Comhlámh at the Festival of World Cultures

By: Pete Sonderskov

A weekend of festival and celebration featuring cultures from around the world and eRanger was there to support the No Strings team show their educational DVD.

The No Strings puppets, Chuchi Qhalin and a Jinn (the green one) enjoyed a busy weekend at the Dun Laoghaire Festival of World Cultures, near Dublin. Featured as part of Comhlámh's presentation on the theme of 'Art in Development Education' they put on shows which enthralled children and adults throughout the two day event.

Johnie McGlade (below left), Hugo Speer (below right) and the rest of the No Strings team worked hard over the three days – presenting the informative educational puppet shows and the DVD film Chuchi, now being used in Afghanistan as part of a landmine safety awareness programme in association with OMAR and Aschiana (an organisation which looks after street kids in Kabul). Read more about this project in our Case Study.

The eRanger Education Unit was used to present the DVD and illustrated, in a very real way the usefulness and practicality of the bike and its media equipment.

The smooth organisation and success of the event must be attributed to Paul O'Mahony and Alice-Mary Higgins of Comhlámh (www.comhlamh.org). Plus many thanks for inviting us, for the hospitality during the event and arranging the many media opportunities.

A special thanks to Chuchi for keeping us entertained and amused with his many stories from Afghanistan. despite a traumatic childhood and his increasing stardom his feet (all of them) remain firmly planted on the ground and he continues to be committed to teaching landmine awareness to the children of Afghanistan.
