Ranger were delighted to be invited to attend this important conference. It proved to be an ideal opportunity to learn more about the issues surrounding Reproductive Health (RH) in emergencies as well as gather feedback from field-workers on the potential of the eRanger Ambulance in the emergency response sector.
RAISE – is a Joint Initiative of Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health and Marie Stopes International. The Reproductive Health Access, Information and Services in Emergencies (RAISE) Initiative is catalysing change in how reproductive health (RH) is addressed by all sectors involved in emergency response, from field services to advocacy, from local aid providers to global relief movements.
The Reproductive Health (RH) in Emergencies Conference 2008, organised by the RAISE Initiative in collaboration with the RHRC Consortium, brought together a wide range of actors from the fields of RH in emergencies, global RH, humanitarian assistance and development to contribute to the expansion of comprehensive RH services in crisis settings.
The conference provided a rare opportunity to not just talk about the issues but also demonstrate the effectiveness of the eRanger Ambulance during the session dedicated to the “Demonstration of New and Underutilised Technologies”.
In a setting that was far removed from the rural roads the eRanger Ambulance is more suited to, the Ranger team spent the afternoon taking “patients and midwives” around the beautiful manicured lawns of the Speke Resort, Mynyonyo. This proved both fun but also very enlightening for the gathered audience of Doctors, Nurses, Sector mangers, Programme and Country Co-ordinators, as well as Government officials from around the world. Without exception they could see of the benefits of this type of transport in most settings.
Our eRanger Ambulance driver for the day was from the newly trained CPAR team. This unit was donated to a CPAR project in North Uganda (more details can be found here).
We extend our thanks to all those who should interest in the eRanger and took the time to visit us and discuss the issues related to EmOC referral. We thank also the organisers of the event for all their help during the conference and the weeks prior.
We will be reporting regularly on the progress of the first eRanger in Uganda, please register on the site to get more information.
The last word goes to Keith and thanks for all the help.
